The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan S390M Grade F steel is seeking to expand the scope of anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese steel and other goods transported through third countries. The Ministry of Finance is considering submitting an application to the Ministry of Finance before the end of September. At the end of August, there were reports that Nippon Steel and other Japanese steel manufacturers were lobbying to consider restricting the import of cheap steel from China to protect their domestic S390M Grade F steel market.
In August 2024, the export of steel products by Chinese steel companies increased by 21.3% compared to the previous month and 14.7% compared to August 2023, reaching 9.5 million tons. From January to August 2024, overseas steel shipments increased by 20.6% year-on-year, reaching 70.58 million tons, a new S390M Grade F steel high since 2016.
